Before we can tackle the mountains, there’s a city to explore. After a morning picking up missing supplies, we cycled over to Vancouver’s Chinatown and tucked into some lunch.
From my journal:
… Then we biked around Stanley Park with its scenic view out over the water, its gigantic trees (and its swarm of tourists). It was an eye-opening visit, my first look at the mountains and trees of BC. We even spent some time at Third Beach and dipped our feet in the waters of the Pacific.
After that, we took the Lion’s Gate bridge to North Vancouver, heading up some very nasty hills to get to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge.
The suspension bridge was an impressive sight, made even more so by my fear of heights. As afternoon shifted towards evening we headed back to Vancouver over the Second Narrows bridge and prepared our gear for the weekend hike.
